Albums Of The Week

Every Friday, people on my corner of Twitter showcase what they've been listening to in the form of a grid. Pictured below are the 9 albums I listened to most last week so let's discuss!

List of Albums In Order:

The Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs

Chappell Roan - The Rise and Fall of A Midwest Princess

Emperor X - Western Teleport

PUP - Morbid Stuff

Charli XCX - Club Classics/B2b

The Front Bottoms - Back On Top

Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion

Casiotone For The Painfully Alone - Etiquette

Choncy - 20x MULTIPLIER

I blogged about 69 Love Songs in my last post about music but I have zero problem discussing it again. I listen to this album every single week whether it's just a few songs or a full listen. Lately, the track "Meaningless" has been on-repeat and hitting a little too close to home. Also need to shoutout "Papa Was a Rodeo" because what a song!!! I love this album and I probably will until I'm old. Side note, this seems like a nice album to play while I cook dinner. Just had that thought.

I understand it now. I understand the Chappell Roan hype now. I was pretty indifferent a few months ago and I thought the singles were catchy but I think the TikTok algorithm got to me by constantly pushing her music at me so it gets stuck in my head. But hey it worked! This album is so catchy and poppy and just pure FUN. When I'm in a good mood I turn on "HOT TO GO!" and "Femininomenon" and instantly feel so light and happy. Chappell I'm sorry I was skeptical about you at first don't take it personally.

I was randomly reminded of "Erica Western Teleport" by Emperor X a few weeks ago and the album has been on repeat ever since. I think that is a perfect song. Emperor X is playing Brooklyn at the end of the month and the show sold out so quick so everyone please feel bad for me. I jest, but man that would have been a really fun show! Anyways, Emperor X makes fun cool indie music that I recommend you check out if you haven't already.

Morbid Stuff by PUP is up there with Knife Man, Worry, and others as "The Top Jenna Albums". This album just recently turned 5 and the reality of that is crazy. Morbid Stuff came out when I was in high school and I have countless memories of me driving around my hometown screaming songs like "See You At Your Funeral" and "Closure". And I think that it aged great too! Could be biased but this record sounds just as good as when it came out!

Time for quick thoughts!

Club Classics/B2b are a set of singles recently released by pop icon Charli XCX that are so fun and great. Been listening a ton and I can't wait for Charli's new album!! I'm a pretty casual Charli fan, I've been listening for years and I think she truly shines when the songs lean more "clubby".

Another throwback on the grid this week. The Front Bottoms were one of my favorite bands in middle school and Back On Top was a staple of my early teen years. I don't go back to this album, or even this band, that often but I was pleasantly surprised by how well this record held up. I don't think this record was received that well by older fans of the band but hey at the time I was 13 and any music sounds good when you're 13.

I can sing the praises of Merriweather Post Pavilion all day. It's spring and the weather is nice and this album is getting played on loop!! Songs like "Taste" and "Lion In A Coma" just sound so much better when its over 67 degrees.

At just 30 minutes, Etiquette by Casiotone For The Painfully Alone manages to invite you into this beautiful world crafted by Owen Ashworth. I love all of the songs on here but I think Casiotone shines in the lyrics and the storytelling. Fun and cool and kitschy and perfect.

Lastly, I need to shoutout 20x MULTIPLIER by the Ohio band Choncy. I found this band randomly because they announced a show at one of my favorite local venues in Brooklyn. Name and description seemed cool and I'm happy to report that I was right. They have a really awesome punk sound and I hope to catch them at the end of the month!

That's all from me, come back next week to see what albums have crawled their way into my brain!
